For parts, I've built a simple cost calculator in the procurement system. It factors in the part price, shipping, handling fees (some dealers have them), and the estimated cost if the part fails within the first year. It's a rough model, but it's saved us an estimated 15% on our parts budget by flagging 'cheap' options that are statistically more likely to cause problems.
The 'Local is Always Faster' Myth
A common assumption is that a local dealer will always quote a better price or deliver faster. One Caveat
